South Africa defeated Australia by six wickets, to make an impressive start to their three-match ODI series on Sunday.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Optus Stadium, and their impressive pace pack soon got to work.

Dale Steyn was named man of the match for an opening burst of two for 18. Andile Phehlukwayo took three for 33, while Imran Tahir and Lungi Ngidi also took two scalps apiece in a strong start to the short trip Down Under.

David Miller added a terrific run-out yo some find catching, as South Africa reacted strongly for  their warm-up defeat to the Prime Minister's XI.

Australia were bowled out for 152, in just 38.1 overs. In response, Quinton de Kock (47) and Reeza Hendricks (44) added 94 either side of the lunch break.

Both from trying to accelerate their way yo the finish. Aiden Markram struck a good-looking 36, before he fell towards the end of the chase.

South Africa eventually reached their target of 153, with 20.4 overs still remaining.

The second one-day international will be in Adelaide on Friday.
