DURBAN - Maritzburg United are considering a change in approach in their quest for that elusive victory in the new season.

United succumbed to a 2-0 loss against Lamontville Golden Arrows in their first game of the season, suffered a 2-1 defeat to Free State Stars in their second league game and this past weekend they crashed out of the MTN8 at the expense of Cape Town City.

United coach Fadlu Davids has vowed to create a structure that will suit his new players. “Teams are sitting back, teams are giving us respect. We have to acknowledge that. We have to find solutions. All the teams plan. I have to create an attacking structure that will suit the new players’ strength,” Davids explained.

United bolstered their squad with the signing of Keletso Makgwala, Keagan Buchanan, Nazeer Allie, Tlou Masegela and Justice Figareido. At the weekend they signed Yannick Zakri. The Team of Choice face Kaizer Chiefs on Friday at Harry Gwala Stadium at 8pm.

“That’s the best thing that can happen now, to face Kaizer Chiefs. I don’t need to motivate them. I want them to be brave. I want them to walk with their chest out because they are a good team. They know that they are a fantastic team. They have to believe it. We have to tweak a few things. I definitely think we will be ready for Chiefs,” an optimistic Davids elaborated.

The Team of Choice have missed Andrea Fileccia upfront due to a hamstring injury, but Davids was confident the Belgian would be back on Friday. Davids is also delighted to have Zakri at his disposal. The Ivorian international is on loan from Sundowns. Last season, he was loaned out to Ajax Cape Town where he impressed.

“If we get a player of that quality, he will really give us the edge. You can see it, we are missing that X-factor in the final third since Evans Rusike left (and joined SuperSport United in January). That’s what we needed,” said Davids about securing the services of striker Zakri.
