We all have plenty of reasons why winter may not be our favourite season, but there is no reason to miss the do's and don’ts in beauty trends and personal grooming in preparation for the colder months.

The heat was turned up on Wednesday morning at Sandton City, where the 2018 beauty trends for autumn/winter in hair and skincare were showcased.

This was a collaboration between Dutch beauty boutique Skins Cosmetics, Glampalm and Medi-Sculpt.

The store is like a collector’s dream because it houses variations of 65 international brands.

What better way to spend the day than being pampered and given a glimpse into world trends in one place?

We were split into groups and took turns in going to the three trend stations in the store.

The first stop was with DrAnushka Reddy. She took us through her anti-ageing LED mask which we took turns to try. It acts as a treatment for acne and ageing signs and promotes radiance.

“We brought this novel technique to South Africa. It’s the only one and it’s called the neo-elegance LED mask. It’s non-invasive and it’s not painful,” the doctor explained.

Sipping our bubbly, we relaxed at the next stop - the Glampalm hair tutorial station by hair and make-up artist Dyllan Morais. He took us through having that perfect curl.

Creative director for Glampalm SA Ria Algoo’s top hair tip is to wear your hair in protective styles like braids or buns, so that it’s not exposed to the harsh weather.

“In winter, hair tends to get very dry and as a result it’s more prone to breakage and split ends. I would suggest oil-based hair treatments that can nourish and moisturise hair deeply. Look out for masques with argan oil, shea butter or coconut oil. You can mask your hair at night and rinse it off in the morning for added benefit.”

At the finishing line, “hydration” was the buzzword. Beauty therapist Natasha Weston took us on a tour of one of the brands that are trending: Caudalie. Full of antioxidants, this is a beauty product recently discovered by winemakers in the French town of Bordeaux.

Suzanne Kaufman and tanning product Tan-luxe completed the list.

“For the face and for the body, exfoliation is important - use oils and butters,” Kaufman said.

“Face hydration is especially important. If you are oily-skinned, you still need to hydrate your face to re-balance the skin’s PH factor. Look for products saying hyaluronic or hydrating,” she advised.
