Cape Town - President Cyril Ramaphosa has submitted a copy of Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's report on former Co-operative Governance Minister Des Van Rooyen to the Speaker of the National Assembly.

The public protector was tasked with investigating whether Van Rooyen violated the Executive Ethics Code by misleading Parliament on his ties with the Gupta family.

Van Rooyen was called before Parliament last year to answer questions around leaked emails which purported to detail how the Guptas had allegedly interfered in mnisterial appointments as well as key appointments at State-owned enterprises. At the time he denied being "captured" by the family who were allegedly instrumental in his short-lived appointment as finance minister.

The Presidency says President Ramaphosa will be engaging with Van Rooyen on the content of the report and will report back to the National Assembly on the action he has taken.

Van Rooyen has been booted out of Ramaphosa's Cabinet in a reshuffle announced on Monday night.
