Aspiring music producers looking to blast their way into the industry have been encouraged to take part in season two of the Rémy Producers SA competition.

The contest will see contestants paired up with leading artists and performers for mentorship, with the winner getting the opportunity to perform with hitmakers Major League DJz, Bandile and Banele Mbere, in Dubai.

“Music is part of our DNA as South Africans. We live, eat and breathe music. We are cognisant (of the fact) that there are many young talented South Africans who aspire to make it big, but do not have the opportunity for exposure,” said Jerome Adonis on behalf of Rémy Martin SA.

“This competition offers our aspiring artists the opportunity to be recognised and mentored into seasoned producers. We are very proud that Major League DJz have agreed to partner with us to search for our hidden gems. We are looking for an authentic sound that pushes boundaries, a sound that is audacious and appealing to a global audience.”

The show’s first season winner, Dennis Masilo, better known as Prxfnd, told Weekend Argus that winning the competition had been a game-changer for his career.

Masilo said the competition had also afforded him the opportunity to work on a collaboration track with the late Riky Rick, build a home studio, and gain valuable skills from other industry players.

“I got to gauge what works and what doesn't, and mentorship from the judges (also assisted me),” he said.

Masilo said exposure from the show had also helped once his song “Abangani Bami” had been released.

“It was the first song that reached over 100K streams, and the competition also gave me mainstream recognition from artists and labels, most of whom I work with today,” he added.

The Johannesburg-based producer has encouraged other budding artists to take part in the upcoming season, calling for all participants to “try to be authentic and aim to introduce your own sound”.

With just days to go until entries close on November 30, the show has received over 1 300 applications.

Those still looking to enter are encouraged to submit their best tracks at remyproducers.co.za.
