‘We are the Champions ’ tribute show will rock you

Capturing the essence of Michael Jackson’s trade mark dance moves, Freddie Mercury’s throaty rock growl, Tina Turner's energy, Elton John’s elusive piano skills and Cher’s charisma is no easy feat.

But tireless rehearsals have paid off for the talented local cast of the tribute show “We are the Champions” currently on at the Barnyard Theatre Tyger Valley which will have you dancing in the aisles and singing along to the music.

From the vocals to the stage persona, the cast emulate the rock and pop stars' vocals and stage presence down to the tee.

An organiser of the show said: “We wanted to honour the music of Michael Jackson, Elton John, Tina Turner, Cher and Freddie Mercury, the greatest musical icons of all time."

The show includes the number-one hits of these legendary star.

“We refer to these artists as champions of our culture and the music industry since they have ruled the charts and greatly inspired us.”

The show has a 10 - piece cast, and the lead vocalists look, sound, and pay tribute to these legendary performers with passion, soul, and authenticity.

Singer Cole Adams takes on Michael Jackson's role with an eerie likeness to the pop icon as he belts songs such as "Billie Jean", "Beat It", "Black or White" and "Smooth Criminal" and more hits.

Singer Courtney Steyn captures Cher as she performs hit songs, including "Believe", "If I Found Someone", "Turn Back Time" and "Walking in Memphis".

Durbanville-based musician, Rainer Jadischke is one of the best Elton John tribute artists in South Africa. Fans of the pop star can look forward to singing along to timeless ballads, “Sad Songs”,“I'm Still Standing” and “Rocket Man”.

Performer Joann Chellan honours Tina Turner with an energetic performance that captures the Queen of Rock's soul and passion with songs like "Proud Mary", "Simply The Best", "Private Dancer", "What’s Love Got To Do With It" and many others.

Singer Richard Kaldenberg recreates the magic of Freddie Mercury in a splendid performance of hits such as "A Kind of Magic", "Somebody to Love", "Crazy Thing Called Love".

The cast is accompanied by Sebastian Guile on the drums, Franco Mannelon the bass, Mike Raven on the guitar and August West on the sax.

*The Barnyard Theatre in Tyger Valley is hosting the tribute show titled “We Are the Champions” until January 22 with a special event on New Year’s Eve.
