Cape Town – Following the attempted cash-In-transit heist near an ATM in Shoprite Park in Du Noon on Thursday, cash-in-transit company SBV Services has offered a R1 million reward for information that may lead to the arrest and prosecution of those involved.

Provincial police have launched a manhunt for a group of suspects.

According to a report from the scene, national police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe said the cash van was attacked by a group of unknown men.

“The group of suspects, who were travelling in a Mercedes-Benz and a BMW, opened fire on the cash van with the security officials inside after the driver of the cash van rammed into the Mercedes.”

“The armed men fled the scene empty-handed and also abandoned the Mercedes-Benz. The abandoned vehicle was found to have been stolen in Khayelitsha,” said Mathe.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) spokesperson Deanna Bessick said that EMS officials had been called to help a 30-year-old man who had been shot.

The injured man was an SBV employee. Group chief executive of SBV Services Mark Barrett commended the team for their bravery and offered a R1m reward for information.

“We are extremely proud of the quick and evasive action taken by our CIT team in this unsuccessful attack, and we wish our injured staff member a safe and speedy recovery.”

“Although we cannot comment further as an investigation is under way, SBV is offering a R1m reward for information leading to the successful arrest and prosecution of the suspects involved in this attack.
