African Development Bank has appointed two new executives

DURBAN - The African Development Bank has announced two new appointments this week who will be taking over executive roles at the bank. 

Effective September 1st, 2018 Dr Mateus Magala and Dr Kapil Kapoor will be appointed as the Vice President for Corporate Services and Human Resources and the Director General of Southern Africa Regional Development and Business Delivery Office respectively. 

Magala is a citizen of Mozambique and is currently the Chairman and CEO of the Electricity of Mozambique (EDM)

He previously worked for the African Development Bank from 2008-2015 in various roles including the Resident Representative of the Bank in Zimbabwe. He left the African Development Bank to work on revamping Mozambique's utility company EDM.

Magala has also worked in Australia for the University of Sydney and the University of Melbourne. 

He has his Masters in Economics and Econometrics, Transport Economics and Management and in Business Administration all from the University of Sydney. Magala also has his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Academy of Brno, the Czech Republic as well as his PhD in Economics from Victoria University. 

On his appointment to the bank, Magala said: "Already, the Bank is the fourth most attractive company among employers in Africa".

He added that he was looking forward to working with President Adesina on his bold reforms and to aid in fast-tracking institutional systems and processes and make the bank smarter for faster responsiveness to the needs of the bank's stakeholders while quickening the delivery of the operations of the bank.

Dr Kapil Kapoor who has been appointed as the as Director General, Southern Africa Regional Development and Business Delivery Office and has worked for the African Development Bank since 2012. 

Kapoor previously worked for the World Bank as a manager and development economist. At the World Bnak, he managed portfolios of projects that was valued at more than $1 billion.

He has led many development initiatives in various country settings including Afghanistan, Somalia, Mauritius and India. 

Kapoor is an Indian citizen who holds a PhD degree in Economics from the George Washington Univeristy in the United States. 

The new Director General spoke about his appointment. He said, "I am excited and truly honoured to be appointed as the Director General for Southern Africa".
