New York – American online behemoth Amazon announced on Thursday that it plans to launch its shopping services in Australia, posing a significant challenge to local retailers.
“We now have almost 1 000 employees in the country.
The next step is to bring a retail offering to Australia,” the company said.
Amazon already sells Kindle e-reader devices, audio books and content through its Australian website.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Amazon was actively looking for a warehouse, the first of many planned for Australia, with a floor space of up to 93 000m².
