Durban - A 30 year old man has been jailed for 22 years for raping his biological mother. 

The sentence was handed to the man in the Verulam Magistrate's Court on Monday. 

According to evidence presented in court, the rape occurred on two occasions between the period of 2015 and 2016. 

The man had been living with his 52-year-old mother in Phoenix. 

On the day of the first incident the victim approached his mother and told her he wanted to have sexual intercourse with her while she was having a bath. 

According to KZN police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane: "The accused booted the bathroom door when the victim refused and told the accused that she is his mother and that this could not happen. The accused then assaulted the victim and forcefully raped her. 

"The victim than reported the matter to the relatives, when the accused was questioned he denied it."

On the second occasion, in March 2016, the victim was again alone with the accused at their homestead when he forcefully dragged and raped her, the victim than reported the matter to the police and the accused was then arrested. 

The victim was interviewed by the court and she informed the court that she was afraid for her life as her son was violent.
