DURBAN - A cash in transit heist took place at Dube Village Mall left a guard injured on Wednesday morning.

According to Kyle van Reenen, Marshall Security spokesperson said while the security guards were collecting cash from Shoprite Checkers in Dube Village Mall.

“As they were leaving with the cash boxes, they were approached by two armed men and demanded the cash from the guard. A little tussle ensued and a shot was fired by one of the armed men, striking the guard,” said van Reenen.

The guard suffered a gunshot wound on his right ankle and was treated and stabilised by Crisis Medical Advanced Life Support Paramedics and was transported to City Hospital.

The men fled in a Toyota Tazz but later abandoned the car around a corner and fled on foot.

Police, K9 Unit and Marshall Security searched for the men in the area, however the men are still at large.
