Durban - A 32-year-old man was convicted and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for rape and murder.
On Monday, Mboniseni Dlamini was convicted and sentenced by the Nongoma Regional Court after the magistrate heard how he committed these crimes in 2017, said Captain Nqobile Gwala, police spokesperson.
“On 1 January 2017 at 4:00 the victim, Ntombizethu Simelane (24) was at her house at Ekubuseni area, Nongoma when she was approached by the accused. After an argument, she was raped and stabbed to death. Her throat was slit and was found lying in a pool of blood in the house. A weapon (knife) suspected to be used to kill the victim was found at the scene. A case of murder was opened at Nongoma police station for further investigation,” said Gwala.
Major General Bheki Langa, KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner said: “The accused showed no remorse when attacking the victim as she was brutally killed and raped. This will send a strong message to would-be criminals that the police will not tolerate those who abuse women and children”.
