We’re basking in warm weather from last summer, yet trend watchers are looking ahead to Spring/Summer 2012 and the trends that will be making fashion news.
The country’s leading designers will be giving us a taste of what’s ahead at SA Fashion Week’s (SAFW) Spring/Summer 2012 collections in Johannesburg from Thursday to Sunday.
Starting with the Sheer Glamour Collections by Motions and Tresemmé, the new first tier hair care sponsors of SAFW, the event will showcase 41 designers, including Durban icons Gideon, Terrence Bray, Francois Vedemme, Colleen Eitzen and Narainsamy.
Other designers include Suzaan Heyns, Black Coffee, Clive Rundle, Rubicon, Joel Janse van Vuuren and Mantsho, as well as menswear designer, Naked Ape.
Rising stars from KwaZulu-Natal will make an appearance at the New Talent show on Sunday: Ludwig Bezuidenhout and Claire Mackenzie of Pietermaritzburg, and Laila Baderoon and Silindile Sibisi, who design under the label Oo Liu, from Durban.
SAFW director Lucilla Booyzen said the event had sharpened its focus to highlight only exceptional local design with a view to driving more aggressive sales.
