Durban — One of the two women alleged to have hatched a plan to rob her neighbour of his severance pay dropped her jaw in disbelief as she and her co-accused were denied bail in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Zamokuhle Ndlovu and Lindiwe “Malindi” Sithole, from KwaDabeka, are charged with conspiring to commit robbery with aggravated circumstances.

The pair are alleged to have conspired to have Wiseman Sibiya robbed.

A recorded conversation between the two women and a man had been circulated on social media before the two appeared in court for the first time.

The hatched plan was allegedly set into play and at gunpoint Sibiya was robbed in his home of his fossil watch, a brown watch, a cellphone and FNB card.

The State opposed bail citing that Ndlovu, 21, and Sithole, 41, were likely to evade trial as they had no fixed assets adding that if they were found guilty they faced a lengthy term.

The State prosecutor, who prefers not to be named, said the men who had entered Sibiya’s house and robbed him were still at large.

He said there was also a likelihood that the pair could jeopardise the proper functioning of the justice system should they be released on bail.

Magistrate Wendalynn Robinson in refusing bail said the two women as bail applicants had the responsibility to show the court that the interest of justice permitted their release.

Sithole said she was employed part-time and Ndlovu was self-employed with two children dependent on her. However, they could not provide proof to the court.

The matter was adjourned to November 23.
