Durban: Parts of Pietermaritzburg were pelted by a hail storm on Wednesday afternoon.
Social media is buzzing with videos and photographs of the hail storm that is believed to have started battering Pietermaritzburg after 3pm.
Some of the videos show flooded areas where rain water is carrying some of the hail away while others show the effect strong winds have had on trees.

A Facebook user who posted a video said the hail was mostly golf ball-sized.
On Facebook Labuschagne Sonja Wayne complained about the damage and said residents had not recovered from the previous hail storm.
In another comment, Wayne said the previous hail storm damaged so many properties.

Earlier the South African Weather Service (Saws) had issued a yellow level 2 warning for thunderstorms that would affect the Western Cape and Northern Cape.
There is also another yellow level 2 warning rain in the Eastern Cape.
Road crashes were also reported during the storm.
The Saws could not be contacted by the time of publication.
