Durban - A Ballito family were robbed while watching television in their lounge on Wednesday.

It is alleged that five men clad in balaclavas and firearms pushed open the lounge sliding door and gained entry into a house at Ashley Road in Ballito just after 10pm said KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala.

"They entered the house and pointed firearms at a woman (66), her son (46) and grandson (22). They were seated in the lounge watching TV. These suspects ransacked the entire house. They stole a flat screen television set, four laptops, a kettle, jewellery and other items. They then loaded the items into their vehicle and drove off in unknown direction," Gwala said.

They also tied up the homeowner. It is alleged that one of the suspects had opened the driveway gate so that a car could be brought in to load the goods.

A case of robbery was opened at Umhlali police station for investigation.
