Teacher shot dead in KwaZulu-Natal school
Durban - A KwaZulu-Natal school teacher was shot dead while walking in the school corridor in Folweni on Tuesday.
Shawn Herbst, a spokesperson for Netcare 911 paramedics, said they responded to reports of a shooting at a Masuku Primary school on Gaze Makhanya Avenue in Folweni.
"Reports from the scene allege that an unknown person had entered the school premises and fired multiple shots at a 48-year-old school teacher who was walking down a passage at the time, striking him in the head and abdomen," Herbst said.
Paramedics arrived on scene and had assessed the man but unfortunately his injuries were too severe and he was declared dead.
Muzi Mhlambi the KZN Department of Education spokesperson said the deceased was a grade 7 educator.
"The police are investigating the incident. He was shot by an outsider on the school premises. There is a security guard deployed at the school. Our condolences to the family,"Mhlambi said.
Circumstances leading up to the shooting will be investigated by the Folweni SAPS.
