Durban -Police are still searching for the three men who hijacked a mother while she was dropping off her child at school in Morningside on Friday.

The mother had been dropping her kid off at Livingstone Primary School when she was hijacked off her Silver Rav 4 which was later found in Inanda.

Colonel Thembeka Mbele, a KwaZulu Natal police spokesperson, said the 42-year-old woman was hijacked at gunpoint on the corner of Lilian Ngoyi and Livingston Road by three men. Mbele said she was not taken with the vehicle.

A case of carjacking was opened at Durban Central police station for investigation.

Martin Meyer, eThekwini ward 27 councillor, posted on Facebook that he was shocked and saddened by the hi-jacking incident.

"It is shocking where shots where fired involving a mother dropping her child of at school. Crime has become an unfortunate reality for our country, but it remains shocking when something like this happens. We have been begging and fighting for more resources at our local police station where our officers try very hard with the little they have to keep us safe," Meyer wrote.

He also urges residents to actively become part of the CPF so that we all can take hands to fight back against the criminal currently having a free reign in our city.
