Former Cope spokesman Phillip Dexter opened a case of abduction against his ex-wife on Wednesday, for apparently leaving the country with his 5-year-old daughter.
Dexter opened the case at Sea Point police station after his daughter Maya flew with her mother to London last Tuesday.
“They were supposed to come back yesterday (Tuesday) after apparently visiting my ex-wife's sister,” he said.
“I have opened a case because she has taken Maya without consent. She is refusing access and she won't tell me where Maya is.”
Dexter, a member of Parliament, would approach a court on Thursday to order his ex-wife to bring Maya back.
He said they were divorced over a year ago and had joint custody.
“I have had no telephonic contact with her for a week and can only imagine how she feels being taken out of school and away from everyone she knows.”
Dexter stepped down as spokesman for the Congress of the People in September, but was still a party member. - Sapa
