Two dead after tuckshop hold up in Cato Manor

Durban -Two men were shot dead moments after they held up the Masibambisane tuckshop in Cato Crest on Monday night. 

Four men entered the containerised tuckshop just after 8:30 pm on and held up a staff member and customers.

Captain Nqobile Gwala, a KwaZulu Natal police spokesperson, said when police arrived after receiving a complaint of a robbery in progress they found two people dead in Caronya Road. 

"The employee of the tuckshop was performing his duties as a cashier when four armed men came to the shop and instructed everyone to lay down. The suspects started loading goods in a bag. The door to the shop was closed during the robbery. The community noticed that and they mobilised outside the tuck shop," Gwala said. 

Poice said the men got out of the shop and began running. It is alleged that one of the men began shooting at the community. 

Police said a bystander was hit by a stray bullet and was rushed to King Edward hospital. 

"As the suspects were fleeing the scene shots were fired, fatally wounding two suspects. The other two suspects managed to flee the scene unharmed. It is unclear as to who shot the suspects,"she said.  

Both the deceased are suspects in the attempted murder and business robbery case opened by Cato Manor police.

Also, charges of robbery, attempted murder and murder were opened at Cato Manor police station for investigation.
