Durban — Two suspects recently appeared in court for being in possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of drugs as well as possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.

Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said that on November 16, the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit together with Bhekithemba police acted on information about suspects in possession of drugs and firearms at uMlazi.

She said they proceeded to an identified premises and conducted a search.

“Police recovered an AK-47, a R4 rifle, 220 rounds of ammunition as well as various drugs,” Ngcobo said.

“Philani Sikhosana, 31, and Sumeya Mabaso, 36, appeared before the uMlazi Magistrate’s Court on November 25 for being in unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of drugs as well as possession of a suspected stolen vehicle. They were remanded in custody until November 30, for bail application,” Ngcobo said.

She said that in another incident on Monday, the same team went to eManzimtoti where they executed a search warrant.

“During a search of the premises the police officers recovered cocaine and heroin capsules with an estimated value of R142 000. Two suspects, aged between 29 and 32, were arrested and will appear in court soon,” Ngcobo said.
