DURBAN - A motorist was burnt beyond recognition when their vehicle crashed and burst into flames on the M4 North highway in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The crash happened at about 2am on the Ruth First Highway in the vicinity of the Umgeni River Bridge.

Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said the car, a Renault, had one occupant inside. She said the car crashed into a pole and burst into flames. She said the occupant was burnt beyond recognition and DNA analysis would be required to determine the identity of the deceased.
