Durban – Two men suspected of being linked to many trio crime incidents in the greater Durban area were arrested in the city on Tuesday.

According to the South African Police Service, trio crimes are carjackings, house robberies and business robberies.

On Tuesday afternoon, Marshall Security and the Cato Manor Trio Crimes Unit arrested two suspects believed to be linked to numerous trio crimes including an armed robbery that happened 24 hours earlier.

Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell said that at approximately 1.10pm, a vehicle was spotted that has been linked to numerous trio crimes in the greater Durban area, including an armed robbery that had happened in the Morningside area, on Percy Osborn Road less than 24 hours earlier. It is also believed that the vehicle is linked to a house robbery that occurred in the Avoca area last Thursday.

“The vehicle was spotted and our Special Ops Team members together with Cato Manor Trio Crimes Unit managed to stop the vehicle on Wolseley Road in the Morningside area. Two suspects were immediately arrested by Cato Manor Trio Crimes Unit assisted by our Special Ops Team,” Powell said.

“Upon further investigation, it was established that the vehicle had been hijacked earlier this month in the Newlands Area and had been fitted with false number plates. Certain items that were stolen in the previous robbery on Percy Osborn Road were found in the vehicle.”

Powell added that the scene was secured and the suspects were taken to the SAPS for further investigation and processing together with the hijacked vehicle that had been used in the crimes.

Police had not commented by the time of publication.
