Opinion - Parents who have children writing matric think they will breathe easier once the exams are over, but this is not to be.

Thousands will flock to the matric Rage celebrations.

The age-old biblical saying “as you sow, so shall you reap” could not be more apposite to parents of today who send their children to these festivals.

Maybe I am from the old school and the students are indeed entitled to let off steam after their exams, but I wonder how we as a society allow these children to participate in such activities.

Attendance at these festivals means lots of alcohol consumption and drug-taking. We often wonder why society has lost its moral compass at the same time as we are supposed to turn a blind eye to such behaviour and activity.

It is time that we as a community stood up and insisted that such activities are not held as they destroy the very fabric of the society we live in, and it shows the society in which we live in to have no principles.
