Durban - Police have arrested the boyfriend of Rosebank College student Ayanda Ngcobo, 24, during the early hours of Thursday morning. The man has been on the run after he allegedly murdered his girlfriend on Monday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said police went to Malangeni in Scottburgh and found the 27-year-old hiding at the residential premises. “He was arrested and charged for murder. He will appear in the Umlazi Magistrate's Court soon,” said Zwane. 

"On Monday, Bhekithemba police received a report of a murder at J Section in Umlazi. On arrival, the suspect’s mother took police to a room where Ngcobo lived with her boyfriend. Ayanda had sustained numerous injuries and was certified dead at the scene. A case of murder was opened," said Zwane. 

"Her 7-year-old son had been lying next to her unharmed. The boyfriend was nowhere to be found," he said.

It is believed that journalism student was assaulted and strangled.
