Durban – An alleged car thief was nabbed after being pursued by private security last Thursday.

Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell said members of its Special Operations Team were activated to assist Tracker SA with locating a stolen Toyota Etios Cross that had been taken from Erskine Terrace in the Point area.

Powell said the Special Ops Team members immediately zoned in on the signal of the stolen vehicle in the Briardene and Avoca area.

He said the vehicle was then spotted travelling on Queen Nandi Drive.

“After a short chase, the suspect was brought to a halt on Queen Nandi Drive where he alighted from the stolen vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.

“Our team members, together with the Tracker SA members, continued to pursue him and managed to apprehend the suspect on Queen Nandi Drive after a short foot chase,” he said.

Powell said the suspect, together with the stolen vehicle, was handed over to the SAPS Provincial Vehicle and Trio Task Team who arrived on scene.

He said the suspect and the stolen vehicle were transported to Point SAPS where he was charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

Powell thanked the Durban K9 Unit and Phoenix Trio Crimes Unit for responding swiftly to the scene.
