Durban - The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in KwaZulu-Natal congratulated the Premier-elect Nomusa Dube-Ncube for making history as the first woman to take up the position in the province.
Dube-Ncube is set to become the ninth KZN premier and the sixth from the ANC following the resignation of Sihle Zikalala as KZN premier after he was defeated at the ANC elective conference.
The Mercury reported on Tuesday that Dube-Ncube would be sworn in on Wednesday during a special sitting of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature.
The Youth League said in a statement on Tuesday that it was thrilled over Dube-Ncube’s appointment.
“We can say without any doubt that her official election will strengthen our province, especially on issues of children and women's rights, poverty alleviation, teenage pregnancy, social ills, unemployment and inequalities,” said the statement.
The statement said Dube-Ncube’s appointment is not only a victory for women in KZN but for women across the country.
The ANC Youth League in KZN also commended Zikalala, who they said had a great sense of humility, selflessness, openness, transparency and perfection as the premier.
“KZN government scored numerous victories for the poorest of the poor under his administration, including increasing the Youth Fund under the Premier's office. We wish him all the best for his future endeavours.”
