Durban - Police have provided more details on an incident in which a man believed to be a Chinese businessman was shot while travelling on the N2 in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.
The man was reportedly travelling with his colleagues, who are also Chinese.
Provincial police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, said a case of attempted murder was opened at Mandeni SAPS following a shooting on the P415 road near a church in Mandeni.
“There was no robbery. One male was shot and taken to hospital for medical attention. A case of attempted murder was opened at Mandeni SAPS,” she said.
Police are investigating the incident.
Ngcobo added that a female had also sustained injuries due to the crash.
On Saturday IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Dylan Meyrick said IPSS paramedics and security responded to the scene of a shooting on the Link Road between Mandeni and the N2.
Meyrick said reports from the scene indicated that the people in the vehicle were Chinese foreign nationals, who are believed to be business people.
He said the suspects fired multiple times before the vehicle left the roadway.
The patients were stabilised on scene by IPSS Medical advanced life support, and were transported to a specialised facility.
