Body of man, 28, riddled with bullet wounds found outside a tavern near oThongathi

A man believed to be a self-employed brick manufacturer was declared deceased at the scene, after he was found with multiple gunshot wounds outside a tavern in the Emona area near oThongathi.

Durban – A 28-year-old man was found with multiple gunshot wounds outside a tavern in the Emona area near oThongathi on Wednesday.

Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said the Tongaat Operations Centre received multiple calls from the public requesting medical assistance for the unresponsive man.

Balram said Rusa officers and paramedics were immediately dispatched and arrived on the scene just after 7.30pm.

He said the Rusa members discovered the body of a man on an unpaved road.

“He was shot twice in the head, twice in the chest and once on his right arm. He showed no signs of life and was declared deceased,” said Balram.

According to Balram, five spent 9mm cartridges were recovered at the scene.

“Residents from the area informed reaction officers that they heard a volley of shots in the area. Upon investigation, they discovered the unresponsive male,” he said.

Balram said the deceased was a self-employed brick manufacturer who lived in the area.

Provincial police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said a case of murder was opened at Ndwedwe police station for investigation.

“A 28-year-old man was found dead on 21 September 2022 at 19:00 at Mganwini area. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds on the body and head. The motive for the killing is unknown,” she said.
