Durban – Durban’s Super Giants unveiled their official jersey for the SA20 League on Monday at an event at Kingsmead Stadium.
The SA20 League is set to take place in January.
At Monday’s event it was announced that Proteas wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock will be captain of the team while Jonty Rhodes will join the existing coaching set-up which includes Lance Klusener and Morne Morkel.
Durban’s Super Giants franchise are one of the six franchise teams that will be playing in the SA20 League.
It is owned by RPSG Group from India, which also owns Indian Premier League franchise Lucknow Super Giants.
The event was attended by local government officials including Eric Apelgren from the eThekwini Municipality, and Sharks players Lukhanyo Am and Phepsi Buthelezi.
Durban’s Super Giants CEO, Vinod Bisht, said that they were excited to be part of the SA20 League.
“Our family has become bigger with the addition of Durban’s Super Giants and we are excited to represent this vibrant city in one of the most sought after leagues in the world.”
Shashwat Goenka, owner of Durban’s Super Giants, said Durban was the obvious choice.
“Not just because of its love for cricket but because it is a symbol of innovation, youthful exuberance and the true spirit of South Africa.”
During the question and answer session, Keshav Maharaj said that the team is looking strong and wants to perform well.
“We are a very balanced side and have all our bases covered but what will differentiate us is the fun and enjoyment factor. We intend to make Kingsmead our fortress.”
