DURBAN – An e-hailing taxi cab carrying one passenger on the M13 Fields Hill in the west of Durban rolled down an embankment on Tuesday night.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said the Durban Metro Police Search and Rescue, Ethekwini Fire and Rescue, RescueTech and SAPS were also in attendance at the scene.
He said Netcare 911 had responded to a collision.
“Reports indicate that the driver of an e-hailing taxi with one occupant on board lost control, resulting in a roll-over down an embankment,” he said.
Herbst said medics assessed the scene and found that the driver had sustained moderate injuries, while the passenger had not sustained any injuries.
“A rope and basket rescue system was set up in order to retrieve the driver from the bottom of the hill,” he said.
He said once treated and stabilised, the driver was transported by private ambulance to hospital for further care.
Meanwhile, on Monday Netcare 911 responded to a collision on Hereford Circle in Hayfields in Pietermaritzburg where the driver of a minibus taxi lost control, resulting in a roll-over.
“Medics assessed the scene and found 14 passengers and a goat that had sustained minor injuries. Five of the occupants of the taxi were treated on scene and once stabilised were transported to hospital by private ambulance,” he said.
Herbst said the goat was removed by private transport.
