Durban – The leadership of the EFF in KwaZulu-Natal says the province was one of the key areas that contributed to the growth in the party’s membership.

It is expected that the party’s top brass will soon make an official announcement that it has reached the one million members milestone, which forms part of the EFF’s plan for the 2024 provincial and national elections.

EFF KZN secretary Nkululeko Ngubane said they were satisfied with the work that had been done as part of the membership drive.

“Admission to be an EFF member is a strict process, we are very strict as to who becomes our member because we want individuals that are ready to make a meaningful contribution to our struggle,” said the provincial secretary.

He pointed out that many people had applied, but failed to make the cut.

Ngubane stressed that reaching the one million milestone will not mean an end to the membership drive, but would serve as an incentive to gain more support.

“We know the importance of a solid membership, especially as we build up to 2024, because we know what we want and believe that it is within our reach,” Ngubane explained.

The EFF has emerged as one of the fastest growing political formations and in last year’s local government elections found itself in a position of power broker in some councils across the country.

The growth in membership, and voter support has encouraged the party leadership to continue in its quest to have more members, with an aim of securing more seats at provincial legislatures and national parliament in the 2024 elections.
