Durban - Four men believed to be bouncers were injured in a drive-by shooting outside a nightclub on Harvey Road in the Greyville area of Durban on Saturday.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said paramedics responded to the shooting incident just after 10pm.

Herbst said reports from the scene indicated that four adult males, believed to be bouncers of the establishment, were shot in a drive-by shooting while standing at its front entrance.

“When medics arrived on scene, they found two adult males who had sustained serious injuries,” he said.

He said both adult males were treated on the scene by Netcare 911 emergency care practitioners and once stabilised were rushed to a nearby hospital for further care.

“The other two adult males had sustained moderate to serious injuries; however (they) were transported by private vehicle to hospital,” he said.

Provincial police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said Durban Central police were called to Morningside, where four people were shot.

“On arrival they were informed that a vehicle with no number plates was driving on Harvey Road when an occupant opened fire in front of a business premises,” she said.

Ngcobo confirmed that the injured were rushed to hospital.

Police said a case of attempted murder was opened at Durban Central for investigation.

The Mercury’s sister publication, the Daily News, reported last week that a mother and her son were gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Newlands East.

According to police, people were seated in a vehicle at their place of residence on Katonkel Road when they were shot at by three unknown men. Three of them were severely wounded and rushed to hospital.

Patricia Simelane, 55, and her son Spha Simelane, 22, later died of gunshot wounds.

At the time of the report last Wednesday, police said a family member, Kehla Simelane was believed to be in a critical condition in hospital while his girlfriend (name unknown), was wounded in her hand.
