Four men found with vehicle key device after theft of car in Ballito, to appear in court

DURBAN – FOUR men aged between 22 and 34 are set to appear before the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court tomorrow for theft of a motor vehicle and being caught with vehicle breaking implements.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said that on Saturday morning a vehicle was stolen at Ballito and a case was opened for investigation at the Umhlali police station.

“Following investigation, the vehicle's tracker indicated that it was in KwaDukuza before the tracking unit was disconnected.

“A multi-disciplinary team which included various security agencies began following up on the information. The vehicle was spotted travelling along the N2 south bound near Ballito,” she said.

Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell said a member of the public informed them yesterday morning that a white VW Polo had just been stolen and the suspects were driving a white Hyundai i20

“Both the vehicles were seen travelling on the N2 southbound before the Tongaat Toll Plaza by members of our special operations team. The vehicles were stopped and all the four suspects were arrested,” Powell said.

Mbele said during a search conducted by police officers, four computer boxes with keys, bags belonging to the owner of the vehicle, a two-way radio, a bag with vehicle breaking-in implements and a vehicle key programmer were found.

She said both vehicles were seized for further investigation, the suspects were detained at the Umhlali police station and charged for theft of a motor vehicle, possession of vehicle breaking-in implements and possession of suspected stolen property.
