DURBAN – IFP President and member of Parliament Velenkosini Hlabisa celebrates his 57th birthday today.

IFP national spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa said the party would like to wish Hlabisa the best of health and for continued wisdom to lead the party as the new year begins.

“President Hlabisa did a stellar job throughout 2021 – despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the gruelling preparations and campaign trail for the 2021 Local Government Elections (LGE).”

Hlabisa joined the IFP in 1978, he was first elected as secretary-general of the party in 2011.

In 2017, the party’s extended national council unanimously endorsed Hlabisa to succeed IFP founder and emeritus president Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.

Hlabisa has since served as the IFP’s president since being elected unopposed at the party’s 35th general national conference in 2019.

Hlengwa said Hlabisa criss-crossed the country to carry the IFP’s promise of good governance, integrity, and accountability to our communities during the party’s election campaign.

“He is a true servant leader, committed to making the best decisions for our people.

“He spoke, and the people listened, entrusting the IFP with many municipalities.”

“Happy Birthday Bulawayo, and may you have many more!

“May you continue to serve the people of South Africa in the spirit of ubuntu/botho,” Hlengwa said.
