KZN Education to make announcement on the recruitment of teachers

The Education Department said due to budget cuts in the current financial year, it had been unable to recruit teachers for qualifying schools. The department said it has been engaging in negotiations with both provincial and National Treasury and the Cabinet of KwaZulu-Natal.

DURBAN - Tomorrow KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Kwazi Mshengu is expected to address the media on the recruitment of educators.

In a brief statement on Thursday, the department said Mshengu would address the issue of budget cuts during the current financial year which has impacted its teacher recruitment efforts.

“The Department has been unable to recruit educators for qualifying schools. The Department has been engaging in negotiations with both Provincial and National treasury with the Cabinet of KwaZulu-Natal assisting in this regard. The MEC will provide feedback on this issue in the media briefing,” the statement read.

KZN Education spokesperson Muzi Mahlangu said: “The Office of the Presidency has created job opportunities for the youth through the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) – Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI).

“The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education has been allocated 64 117 job opportunities, young people are urged to apply and the applications will close on 03 October 2021.”
