DURBAN - Kingsmead Shoes has thanked members of the community for volunteering to clean up the centres and surrounding communities in the wake of the civil unrest that has devastated businesses in KZN.

Kingsmead management expressed their gratitude in a statement on Wednesday night.

The company said it was committed to getting their three affected stores - namely Springfield Value Centre, Watercrest Mall and City View Shopping Centre - up and running as soon as possible.

“We have had stores totally devastated by the criminal looting in KZN but wanted to express our sincere thanks to the people in the communities that have already, on their own accord, offered help and have started cleaning up the centres and surrounding communities, especially Watercrest Mall and City View Shopping Centre.”

The company said it appreciated customers, suppliers, staff and friends for sending messages of support.

“To our landlords, we are with you and will work to getting all back on track ASAP. To our fellow retailers, we want to express our support and willingness to help where we can. To our staff, keep your heads up and let’s keep positive. You guys rock and as a team we can accomplish and overcome anything. As South Africans we know how to weather a storm and will come back even stronger.”

The company also saluted the community community policing forums and SAPS for working tirelessly to restore law and order and urged the public to stay safe.
