DURBAN - At least 25 people sustained injuries in several accidents in KwaZulu-Natal this weekend.

Early this morning, Robert Mckenzie, of KZN Emergency Medical Services, said paramedics and emergency services were at the scene of a minibus crash on the M35 near KwaMakhutha, south of Durban.

“The cause of the crash is not known; 17 people were injured. Their injuries range from minor to critical,” he said.

Mckenzie said one of the patients was airlifted to hospital and the rest were transported to surrounding medical facilities.

On Saturday evening, spokesperson for Netcare 911 Shawn Herbst said Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a collision on the N3 west bound, just before Pinetown, after 6pm.

He said reports indicated that a taxi and a car were involved in the collision.

“Medics assessed the patients and found that a woman had sustained moderate injuries and was trapped in the vehicle. A Netcare 911 rescue technician used hydraulic tools to free her,” said Herbst.

Herbst said she was treated, stabilised and transported to hospital.

ALS Paramedics Medical Services were on the scene of a serious accident on Saturday involving a truck and a light motor vehicle on Edwin Swales Drive near Hillbank on the Bluff.

Jamieson said ALS Paramedics Medical Services arrived on the scene to find that a light motor vehicle and a truck had collided at the intersection.

He said more ambulances were immediately dispatched to the scene to assist.

“Three people were found to have sustained serious injuries and were stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital,”said Jamieson.

Netcare 911 responded to a collision on Saturday morning on the R620 in Margate on the KZN South Coast.

Herbst said reports indicated that the driver of a light motor vehicle lost control, colliding with a large exposed pavement.

“The driver, an adult male, also the only occupant on board, had sustained moderate injuries and was treated on scene before being transported by ambulance to hospital,” he said.
