Durban - An IPSS Security officer was injured while pursuing two suspects who began fence hopping to evade being caught in Ballito last week.

IPSS said on Friday morning the 24-hour control room received alerts on a community WhatsApp of men behaving suspiciously on a road in the Ballito area.

Armed response officers were immediately dispatched to investigate, said a statement issued on the security company’s Facebook page.

“Upon arrival the two males proceeded to jump over a fence to evade our officers,” said the statement.

According to the statement, IPSS tactical teams were also dispatched to assist with the search and after a short chase through several properties, one suspect was apprehended, while the other managed to evade security officers.

“Unfortunately one of our tactical team members was injured during the chase and sustained an ankle fracture.”

IPSS Security said the injured officer was taken to hospital.

“The suspect who was apprehended is a known housebreaker and has three outstanding arrest warrants,” said the security company.

The suspect was handed over to uMhlali SAPS for further investigation and processing.
