Durban – The body of a man was discovered by farm workers on Thursday with bullet wounds to the head in a suspected execution in a sugar cane plantation next to the M27 in Inanda, on Thursday.

Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said the body of the unidentified man was discovered by farm labourers just before 8am.

He said reaction officers went to the scene.

“On arrival, Rusa members were led down an unpaved road to the location of the deceased,” said Balram.

According to Balram, three spent 9mm cartridges and a hollow-point bullet were recovered near the body. He said the man appeared to have been executed.

Provincial polices spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala confirmed the incident.

Gwala said the body of an unknown man believed to be 25 years-old was found with gunshot wounds in a sugar cane plantation.

“He sustained gunshot wounds to the head and was declared dead at the scene. The motive for the killing is unknown,” she said.

Police said a case of murder is being investigated by Verulam SAPS.
