Durban - The Pietermaritzburg High Court sentenced a 51-year-old man to life imprisonment on Tuesday for the horrific murder of a young woman in front of her family in the Mathulini area, in Nsuze, northern KwaZulu-Natal last year.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said the life sentence was handed down to Bokang Christopher Khasibe for the murder of 29-year-old Qhamukile Makhaye.

She was killed at her home on June 21, 2021.

Gwala said Makhaye was at her home with her mother and a child when the accused forced the door open.

“He grabbed the deceased and threw her on the bed without uttering a word, he stabbed her repeatedly in front of her family members,” said Gwala.

Gwala said Makhaye sustained multiple stab wounds to the head, face, neck and chest and she was declared dead at the scene.

She said Nsuze police worked around the clock and the perpetrator was arrested the next day.

“He made several appearances before court and he was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for murder,” said Gwala.
