Durban - Newly elected South African Local Government Association (Salga) provincial chairperson Thami Ntuli has committed to making the local government better.

This is after Salga in KZN held its provincial elective conference at the weekend at the Umhlathuze Civic Centre.

“I am truly humbled by the confidence that this conference has shown in me and the collective leadership that has been elected to carry forward the good work that is being done by the sector”, said Ntuli, who is the mayor of the King Cetshwayo District Municipality (Richards Bay).

He stressed the importance of local government in the delivery of services, promising to continue lobbying for the betterment of the local government sector.

Other members of the leadership team are Ntombifuthi Gumede, a councillor from eThekwini Municipality, Newcastle mayor Xolani Dube and Phongolo Municipality mayor Velephi Sikhosana.

In congratulating the new leadership Salga president, Bheki Stofile called upon the leadership to work tirelessly in uniting the sector to promote service delivery.

Salga was set up to represent, promote and protect local governments and to raise the profile of local government. The new leadership has a five-year term which is aligned with that of councils that were formed after the 2021 local government elections.
