DURBAN - A man was killed, and another was wounded in separate shootings on Sunday night at Phoenix.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said that at 7.19 pm on Sunday, Phoenix police received a complaint of a shooting in the Redfern area in Phoenix.

“It is alleged that a 35-year-old male was seated in his vehicle when he was attacked by known people. He was stabbed in the head and shot in the leg. The victim was taken to hospital for medical attention.”

She said the motive for the incident was unknown, and a case of attempted murder was opened at Phoenix police station for investigation.

In the second incident, two hours later, at about 9.17pm, Phoenix police received a complaint of an unknown male lying in the bush also in the Redfern area in Phoenix.

“Upon arrival at the scene, police found a 26-year-old male lying face down on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and neck. He was declared dead at the scene.”

She said the motive for the incident was unknown. and a case of murder was opened at Phoenix police station for investigation.

Reaction Unit South Africa(RUSA) reported that they received calls from the public just before 8.30pm requesting assistance.

“Upon arrival, the RUSA members were led to a pathway leading to Bhambayi, Inanda, where the body of the man was discovered. He was declared dead on the scene due to his severe injuries,” RUSA said.
