PICS: KZN Government visit Lindani Myeni’s family

DURBAN - Members of the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government paid a visit to Lindani Myeni’s family in Empangeni, northern KZN, on Wednesday morning.

The delegation of the KZN government was led by director-general Nonhlanhla Mkhize, acting on the directions of Premier Sihle Zikalala.

The KZN-born former rugby player, Myeni, was killed in Hawaii in the US last week.

The former George Campbell Technical High School pupil had been living in Hawaii with his wife, Lindsay and children.

It is alleged that when police were responding to a home burglary incident. It is not clear what Myeni was doing outside the home.

When the police arrived at the scene, a scuffle ensued between Myeni and the three police officers.

It is alleged that Myeni punched and injured three officers, which led to one of them opening fire and shooting him four times.

His family said earlier this week that they wanted Myeni to be laid to rest in South Africa.

Department of International Relations and Cooperation spokesperson Lunga Ngqengelele said that the department is ready to assist the family even though by law, it could not facilitate the repatriation of the body

“In whatever they would like us to assist, we are ready to assist them,” said Ngqengelele.
