Durban - Police say they are investigating charges of attempted murder after two men were shot and wounded at a restaurant in Malvern in Durban on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said that yesterday at 10.45am, Malvern police received a report of a shooting at a restaurant at a local mall.

“A group of men were sitting at a table when a lone gunman walked up to them and shot two of the victims, aged between 50 and 65,” she said.

Ngcobo added that both men were stabilised on the scene before they were transported to hospital.

“A case of attempted murder was opened at Malvern SAPS for investigation. The motive for the attack is unknown at this point,” Ngcobo said.

On Wednesday, IOL reported that ALS Paramedics attended the scene.

Garrith Jamieson of ALS Paramedics, said the two men were shot several times.

It is believed the men had been eating when someone walked up to them and opened fire.

“At this stage the events leading up to the shooting are unknown, however, SAPS is on scene and will be investigating further,” he said.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said its paramedics also responded to the incident.

“On arrival on scene, two adult males were found to have been shot inside a popular coffee shop. Both men were found to be in a critical condition and advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilise them, before they were rushed by ambulances to nearby hospitals for further care,” he said.
