The South African Military Health Services (SAMHS) in conjunction with the provincial Department of Health will roll out the free military health services programme from Monday in several areas in KwaZulu-Natal.
This comes as the SANDF hosts the 2023 Armed Forces Day (AFD) activities in Richards Bay in KwaZulu-Natal during the same period.
Director of defence corporate communications Brigadier-General Andries Mahapa said the SAMHS will be visiting several areas to provide free services to communities.
These include:
- Eshowe Hospital, KwaMsane Clinic, uMhlathuze Sport Grounds and surrounding areas.
- Medical screenings and oral health education will be carried out for school children at KwaZibonele Primary school and Maqhwakwazi Hall.
- Health care professionals will also be at Thembalimbe Primary and Dondotha Community Hall.
- There will also be visits to Ekhombe Primary school and medical screenings at Ekhombe Multipurpose Centre in Nkandla
- In the Eqhudeni area, SAHMS will visit Makhathini Primary school to conduct oral health education and medical screenings at Qhudeni Hall.
- Oral health screenings and treatments will also be conducted at KwaMsane Clinic in Mtubatuba.
- Oral health education and medical screenings will be conducted at Nkundusi Hall and Nsombosi Primary School.
The SANDF urged members of the communities to arrive from 7am onwards to receive these free military medical health services.
“Those who need urgent medical assistance must bring required documents such as identity documents and clinic cards/medical records,” said Mahapa.
