Durban - Two suspects were arrested while attempting to evade police after they were allegedly caught stealing Transnet copper cables at Pepworth railway line in the Elandslaagte area near Ladysmith on Tuesday.

Magma Security and Investigations owner Shaheen Suleiman said they received a call from Elandslaagte SAPS members requesting their assistance in apprehending suspects who were stealing copper cables from Transnet in the Elandslaagte area.

Suleiman said both Magma and Afri Guard members responded to the call.

According to the SAPS, the suspects had fled the crime scene with copper cables, he said.

“Security officers searched the area and came across two suspects with copper cables in their possession. Both suspects were apprehended and handed over to SAPS,” said Suleiman.
