Durban - Two people died tragically and a further two were injured after two trucks were involved in a collision on the R34 near Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.
Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service spokesperson Craig Botha said when emergency services arrived at the scene of the crash they found that two trucks had been involved in a collision.
Botha said paramedics assessed the scene.
“Sadly, two occupants had sustained fatal injuries and succumbed to their injuries before emergency services arrived,” he said.
He said one person had sustained serious injuries while another person had sustained serious minor injuries.
“The patients were treated on scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment,” said Botha.
Meanwhile, KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Sipho Hlomuka will pay his respects on Thursday to the families of seven people who died in a bakkie crash on R612 between Ixopo and Highflats on Sunday.
Hlomuka will first visit the accident scene then proceed to the memorial service.
In a statement today, the department said the seven occupants died when a bakkie overturned.
“The occupants are believed to have been from a traditional function to Fairview in Ixopo,” said the department.
According to the department, four of the victims were employees of a local Boxer store.
“Other survivors are still fighting for their lives in hospitals,” it said.
