DURBAN: Two men were killed and a woman injured in two shooting incidents at two homes on Saturday in the Buffelsdrai township in Verulam.
Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram, said the two homes were 50m apart.
Balram said Rusa medics were called out to the area at approximately 12.20 am on Sunday after the bodies of both men were discovered by residents in their informal homes.
“On arrival at the first house, the body of a man in his thirties was discovered in a pool of blood. He was shot four times in the head and body,” he said.
With regard to the second shooting, Balram said it was alleged that a couple were asleep when men forced their way into the house and opened fire on them.
“The female sustained gunshot wounds to both her hands. Her boyfriend was shot twice in the head and twice on his back. He succumbed to his injuries,” he said.
The woman was transported to hospital by the Provincial Ambulance Service, he added.
Provincial police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said Verulam police were called out to the area at 11.30 pm on Saturday.
“Verulam police were called to a scene at Buffelsdrai in Verulam where a 46-year-old man was shot and killed. On arrival they found the deceased lying on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds. A case of murder is investigated by Verulam police
“The second incident, a man was with his girlfriend when three men came inside his house and opened fire. The 35-year-old man died on the scene while the female was rushed to hospital,” said police.
Police said a case of murder and attempted murder was being investigated by Verulam police.
