Two suspects arrested after stolen Ballito vehicle crashes into another car on N2

Two suspects lost control of the vehicle they had just stolen in Ballito while fleeing from Marshall Security in a high speed chase and crashed into a motorist on the N2.

DURBAN - Two suspects were arrested after the suspected stolen vehicle they were in collided with another vehicle on the N2 on Tuesday. The suspects were being pursued by officers from security company, Marshall Security.

Marshall Security spokesperson Colin Powell said the emergency dispatch centre had been alerted to the theft of a vehicle at the Ballito Junction Mall around 19.35pm on Tuesday evening.

Powell said a description of the vehicle was circulated and the team spotted it travelling south on the N2 near uMhlanga.

“Our members pursued the suspects, who were in a white Hyundai i20 with false number plates, and they immediately sped off in an escape attempt,” he said.

He said the suspects’ vehicle collided with another vehicle, a ,silver VW Polo at approximately 8.30pm.

“A female occupant in the Polo was severely injured and taken to hospital.

He said both suspects were arrested and stolen items, including three laptops, were recovered.

“The suspects will be charged for theft out of motor vehicle, possession of car-break-in implements, possession of suspected stolen items, and reckless and negligent driving,” said Powell.

He added that all emergency services arrived swiftly on scene, including Netcare911, Metro Police, the eThekwini Fire Department and the Greenwood Park Crime Prevention Unit.
